WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR PROGRAM?
In 2003, our leaders became aware of the need for an ESL program to serve the residents of Tarrant County. We spent that year securing funding, observing other successful ESL programs, praying, and building excitement for this ministry within our congregation. English classes began in January 2004 at the church, later on we added citizenship classes Individual students often receive help, as needed, with supplemental food, small construction projects, solving utility issues, translating important documents, obtaining a driver license, completing immigration forms, and referrals for medical and other family issues.
After starting with three teachers, a handful of church volunteers and about 40 students, the program now averages 85 to 120 students a year. While the students represent over 10 countries, most use Spanish as their first language. Students are assisted by our volunteer teachers who are all certified and trained to teach English as a Second Language. Learning levels are structured from beginner to advanced..emphasizing in conversation. Prospective students are interviewed during registration periods to determine their placement level. The interview consists of a verbal and writing placement tests to determine the student’s current capability with English. The students are placed in one of our three levels. We offer open registration all year round, and we run the same schedule as FWISD. Classes start second week of September and end third week of May.
Child care is offered at no cost so that parents are able to attend classes. Our child care program provides a learning environment for the children. The program is supported by the Church's many caring volunteers.
